TWENTY SIXTEEN

Yeah, that’s right, the VERY DAY after this year’s election was over, pundits (and I use that term loosely) were already talking about who the candidates would be for the NEXT presidential race.

Well, I have a slightly different take on the situation.  How about starting work on the process itself?

First of all, let’s all push the Federal Election Committee really hard to shake Florida’s election process out and put it back together so it works.
Then, how about we all start working hard to make sure every eligible potential voter is registered, in a non-partisan, non-discriminatory, non-illegal way.

Finally, how about we outlaw all television and internet campaign ads.  Oh, I know all about that Free Speech Amendment, and I treasure it.  How else could I say what I think and mean right here in “front of God and everybody?”  But wouldn’t it be wonderful if national campaigning were limited to debates, personal appearances, interviews, and even mailings?  The mailings might give a needed boost to our dear Post Office system (although waste a lot of trees we kind of need because of the global warming thing).  And then if any frustrated millionaires and billionaires were needing to give away their excess money, the money they save by not paying proper taxes, why, then, they could surely contribute to a national disaster relief fund.  Those folks up north sure could use more help right now.
